Well it was just a matter of time before some commie scientists named an extinct animal after the 44th president of the United States. Obamadon gracilis is the name, and the foot-long creature — which was discovered in a
fossil bed in Montana — has been extinct for about 65 million years. And
ironically, its extinction may indicate that paleolithic changes in
climate affected animals differently than previously believed.
Paleontologist Nicholas Longrich explains that scientists are now
rethinking the idea that the asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs
spared smaller lizards like Obamadon:....
India’s Biological Diversity (BD) Act was enacted in 2002. There is now a decade of its existence to reflect on.The genesis of the law can be traced to the Convention on Biological Diversity(CBD), which was signed at the Rio Summit in 1992. While assessing the 10 years of the Act, one has to be mindful of how India itself has undergone change in these years. By the time the Act came into force, trade imperatives had begun to influence environmental law and policy making both at the national and global level. The final shape of the Act and the manner of its implementation through the BD rules issued by the Ministry of Environment and Forests....

“We are looking to make wildlife and livestock more compatible by dealing with diseases, by dealing with human/wildlife conflict, and at the same time seeking economic opportunity in both of these arenas.” Steve Osofsky, director of wildlife health policy for the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), developed the Animal & Human Health for the Environment And Development (AHEAD) program at WCS and served as the first wildlife veterinary officer for the Botswana Department of Wildlife and National Parks. In an interview with Worldwatch Research Fellow Molly Theobald, Dr. Osofsky discusses how farmers can both help and benefit from wildlife c....

The President’s Hydrogen Fuel Initiative combined with congress’ Advanced Energy Initiative of 2006 have garnered over a billion dollars in research monies for the development of hydrogen fuel cells. The AEI even goes so far to state that vehicles powered by these zero polluting fuel cells need to be made practical and cost effective by the year 2020.

Ethanol production has its detractors in those who point out the inefficiencies of the process and the use of agricultural land and water involved, but a new process may help to change some of that. Soaking the kernels of corn before grinding them in ethanol production results in more ethanol and usable co-products – about 20 percent more – says a new study published in Cereal Chemistry.

It wasn’t so long ago that researching and developing sources of alternative energy were considered “fringe issues” that preoccupied the minds and energy of only extreme environmentalists. Now, everyone is included in the search for a solution. Gasoline and its staggering cost are driving a U.S. recession, a world food crisis, and a warming planet; yet without it, life as we know it would come to a standstill.

Antibiotic overuse concerns the health care industry, as bacterial infections have become resistant to them, but why are ethanol producers concerned? What do antibiotics have to do with making fuel from corn? The answer lies in the process to convert corn into fuel involving enzymes, yeast and sugar and the by-product called distillers grain sold as livestock feed.

Lately, there seems to be as much feverish hype around corn ethanol as there was around a certain other treasure that gleamed gold. Praised as an alternative fuel that is renewable, clean, and domestic, ethanol is making strange bedfellows of environmentalists and industry. Or is it?
If you look around, you might see some environmentalists dodging away, leaving only the familiar partnership of industry and government. There are many reasons why those with the green of nature on their minds are getting out, while those with the green of money on their minds are staying in.

During the gasoline crisis of the late 70’s and early 80’s, a product called gasohol was popular in parts of the United States to help reduce the need for foreign oil and to reign in explosive fuel prices. Recently, the mixture of alcohol-based fuels with petroleum fuels is seeing a resurgence. The desire to wean ourselves from foreign oil combined with the need to find more sources of renewable, non-polluting fuels, has led to a movement towards ethanol-based fuels.

If you live in just about anywhere in Europe or Asia, it’s unlikely that you’d need to be sold on the merits of motor scooters (also known by the eponym Vespas)—those fun, economical, and stylish two-wheel vehicles that are simply perfect for driving—and parking—in crowded cities. But keep reading—you just might be surprised by some of the scooter’s environmental implications. The E-Fuel MicroFueler is a still that turns waste products into 100% ethanol that you can put directly into your car- and it does it in a tank you can store at your home. The 250 gallon holding tank converts organic feedstock, including wine and beer, into ethanol through a still inside the tank. There is also a fuel pump attached to the still that operates just like a standard gas pump. But what about waste?

Since diesel fuel boasts a higher energy content per liter, automobiles that utilize diesel fuel generally have better fuel efficiency than gasoline powered cars and trucks. Diesel is also less damaging to the environment as it produces 70 percent less greenhouse gas emissions than gasoline engines. Yet before we can go ahead and call petroleum-based diesel fuel an eco friendly product, we have to look at one other aspect of this fuel.
