Well it was just a matter of time before some commie scientists named an extinct animal after the 44th president of the United States. Obamadon gracilis is the name, and the foot-long creature — which was discovered in a fossil bed in Montana — has been extinct for about 65 million years. And ironically, its extinction may indicate that paleolithic changes in climate affected animals differently than previously believed. Paleontologist Nicholas Longrich explains that scientists are now rethinking the idea that the asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs spared smaller lizards like Obamadon:...

LG Electronics (LG) today unveiled its first wastewater treatment solution, the Green Membrane Bioreactor (G-MBR) process, just two months after the company announced plans to enter the water treatment business. Designed with the latest in efficient and advanced technologies, G-MBR signals LG’s long-term plan to be a major player in the water treatment industry. By employing LG’s slimmer flat-type microfiltration membrane modules and optimizing the space in between, LG’s membrane bioreactor -- the main component of the G-MBR process -- requires 34 percent less space than conventional MBRs, making it more efficient and easier to install. ...

The global commodity boom that drove coal consumption and prices up in 2008 ended, sending prices plummeting over 40 percent in some markets. (See Figure 2.) ...

The new Pesticides Management Bill 2008 is all set to repeal our grand old Insecticides Act 1968 that still governs the import, manufacture, sale, transport, distribution and use of insecticides in India. From October 2008 till date numerous bureaucratic consultations have taken place, including references from the Standing Committee on Agriculture 2008-2009. As the new regime is coming after a long four-decade gap, the obvious question that comes up is, ‘has something changed’? Not substantially, if one carefully compares it with the erstwhile Insecticides Act 1968 and considers a plethora of changes in conditions between then and now. In a sense, the proposed bill portrays a few temporal changes seemingly made under the foreseeable push from the environment groups. These include introduction of contemporary terms like safety, tolerance limit, quality, and environment and health etc. It would, therefore, not be an exaggeration to say that the proposed bill is a sequential extrapolation of 1968 Act and not a leapfrog draft, aiming at satisfying Civil Society Organizations with certain reshuffles in governing powers across regulatory machinery. Even the definition of pesticide needs a re-look, as it does raise question on certain inclusions and exclusions of poisonous substances. However, certain provisions like enhanced role of mass media in awareness creation, setting up of special courts and safer disposal of pesticides are all welcome steps. ...
